The story of Gallo

This is the story of an entirely Italian success, which took its first steps in Milan in 1927 before moving to Desenzano del Garda at the end of the 1930s, where the historic Gallo factory is still based today. Initially, the company produced blue and grey socks. Durable, classic and high quality. Exactly what was needed at the time. Then, in the 1960s, the first spark was ignited: thanks to a unique and innovative approach, Ambrogio Colombo invented openwork socks and baby socks - the smallest socks ever made.

The company continued to grow. Alongside the value of artisanal tradition came a strong commitment to industrial technological development. And so, inherited expertise, raw materials and craftsmanship became indispensable elements, just like the use of exceptional Bentley looms, which still make it possible to create outstanding designs and distinctive collections today.

Make room for the new

Starting in 1998, tradition was transformed, making way for change. Thanks to the initiative and intuition of Giuseppe Colombo, the brand’s Creative Director, buying socks was no longer a necessity, but became an impulse-driven gesture. From a simple accessory intended almost exclusively for men, socks became a pure expression of style: an original way to express one’s personality, a detail that truly makes a difference.

An unmistakable style

Shades of gray are left behind. Socks burst into exuberant color. An explosion of multicolor stripes in varying proportions, chromatic contrasts, and bold geometric patterns appears across socks, knitwear, jackets, and accessories for men, women, and children. Stripe after stripe, collection after collection, ongoing creative research redefines a new aesthetic for socks, which become an increasingly emotional, distinctive, and eclectic statement.

Signature by the artist

Like every work of art, Gallo socks have their own distinctive signature. The hand-linked toe, made with a characteristic white or red thread, is an imperceptible finish that ensures maximum comfort: it joins the toe to the foot of the sock, replacing the more common seam. Hand-linking is a timeless art that is still carried out by hand in the company today: sock after sock, our skilled staff perform this process, perfectly matching the two rows of knitwear.

The yarns

We select and use only the finest materials: extra-fine merino wool, pure mercerized cotton, linen, cashmere, and 100% silk that is exceptionally lightweight and comfortable. We source raw yarn from the world’s finest producers, then dye it in Gallo colors, an exclusive range comprising a thousand shades. We use electronic equipment to constantly analyze the product’s intensity, consistency, and brilliance, allowing for a deviation from the Gallo color range of just 0.8% (exactly half the level of the parameters universally recognized as “high standards”).
